Golden Chariot Train
The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), which runs the Golden Chariot, south India’s first luxury train in partnership with the Indian Railways, is hoping to get good response for the ‘Pride of the South’ and ‘Southern Splendour’ trips this Dasara season.

After the monsoon break, the trips for the remaining part of the year begin from October 7.

As many international tourists visit the region during the Dasara festivities, the operators are planning to announce a “special offer” on bookings the ensuing Dasara season. Departures are scheduled on October 7, 14 and 28 (Pride of the South) and October 21 (Southern Splendour) for the seven nights and eight days trip.

KSTDC Managing Director C.D. Dyavaiah said the offer will be announced soon. “Tariff is being worked out. We are getting enquiries for October 7 trips; we are hoping to cash in on the season projecting Dasara among the potential travelers, especially international tourists,” he said.

Pride of the South trip covers the State’s best-known tourist destinations, such as Mysore, Kabini, Belur, Halebid, Hampi, Badami, and Aihole. The trip ends in Goa.

The Southern Splendour journey starts at Bangalore, covering the historical temples of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and backwaters of Kerala before returning to source.
